EMN Informs are primarily intended for policymakers and other practitioners and provide a brief summary of the main policy-relevant findings from an EMN activity. This Inform aims to explore Member States’ experiences with new legal pathways, namely Talent Partnerships and complementary work-related pathways for those in need of international protection.

Accurate, timely, interoperable? - Data management in the asylum procedure

The new study of the EMN examines how data are managed in the different phases of the asylum procedure (making, registering, lodging and examining) across the Member States and Norway. It maps data management approaches in the asylum procedure (i.e. data protection and safeguards), examines challenges faced by Member States, and analyses the impact of any procedural changes to enhance data-sharing among asylum authorities (and others). This study reflects the situation and developments in data management in the asylum procedure between 2014 and 2020, the initial three years of which were characterized by very high numbers of applicants for international protection. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on data management in the asylum procedure is also briefly explored. As regards statistics, the period 2014-2019 is covered.

EMN Asylum and Migration Glossary

The EMN Asylum and Migration Glossary offers an EU-wide multidisciplinary vocabulary of approximately 500 terms and concepts, with terms translated into a number of languages. A consultative approach is used to keep the EMN Glossary up-to-date and relevant. The EMN Glossary is developed by a dedicated working group which collaborates with the European Commission, EASO, FRA, FRONTEX, the Council of the EU, the Court of Justice of the EU and international organisations, such as UNHCR and IOM.

EMN Annual Report 2020: Published

The year 2020 brought about unforeseen developments in the areas of migration and asylum. The COVID-19 pandemic impacted the number of migrants, asylum applicants and returns, and also acted as a catalyst for development of new digital solutions in asylum and migration management. These new challenges came in addition to persisting ones such as the need to continuously improve migration management systems and ensure the protection of refugees. The Annual Report on Migration and Asylum, published by the European Migration Network (EMN), provides an overview of the key developments in the EU Member States and Norway in 2020.

EMN Flash: How has the pandemic impacted EU and OECD countries in the migration area?

The EMN Flash „How has the pandemic impacted EU and OECD countries in the migration area?” presents the main research findings of the joint Inform by the European Migration Network (EMN) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) „The impact of COVID-19 in the migration area in EU and OECD countries”. Five Informs published between July 2020 and January 2021 focused on the impact of COVID-19 on the different areas of migration in the EU Members States, Norway and the UK. The comprehensive Inform summarized the key findings of these documents, moreover it seeks to update the Inform's results based on the data available as of 31st of December 2020.

EMN OECD Umbrella Inform: The impact of COVID-19 in the migration area in EU and OECD countries

EMN Informs are primarily intended for policymakers and other practitioners and provide a brief summary of the main policy-relevant findings from an EMN activity. The European Migration Network (EMN) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) have launched a collaboration that will result in a series of informs on the impact of COVID-19 in different areas of migration in the EU Members States, Norway and the UK. Between July 2020 and January 2021, five Informs were published, which this comprehensive document seeks to summarize. It seeks to illustrate and analyze the key findings and identified difficulties, and also to update the Inform's results based on the data available as of 31st of December 2020.

Georgia joins the European Migration Network

In March 2021, Georgia joined the European Migration Network as observer. The working arrangement represents an important step towards reinforced cooperation in the areas of migration and asylum.  

New EMN report published: Children in migration

How do Member States ensure the protection of children in migration procedures, and what measures are in place in relation to guardianship, accommodation, transition into adulthood, and many more? This new report from the European Migration Network (EMN) maps the state of implementation in 2019 of the recommendations laid down in the 2017 European Commission Communication on the protection of children in migration.
